Course Selection

6th GRADE COURSE SELECTION
7th GRADE COURSE SELECTION
8th GRADE COURSE SELECTION
Current Albion Students:
School counselors will meet with current students in February of each school year to discuss
the course selection process and hand out materials.

Current 5th Graders:
Albion Middle School will host both an orientation assembly and an evening for students and their parents/guardians to welcome them to middle school and get them acquainted to the course selection process.
This typically occurs the end of January and/or beginning of February each school year.

New Student Registration

If you need to register your new student to attend AMS for the 2026-27 school year, you will need to complete the following steps:
1. Complete the online Student Information in August here: https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/depts/planning-enrollment/new-student/
2. After the attendance secretary adds and activates your student in Skyward, we will email you instructions to complete their online registration (completed in Skyward)
3. Fill out Google Form to complete your student's class requests. (google form found in the 'Course Selection' tab)

NOTE: If your student has a current IEP or needs support classes, please include this information in your answers on the        Google Form. We will contact you with any follow-up questions.

If you still have questions or would like to speak with a counselor, please click here to contact the appropriate person.

Permit Requests

Students wishing to attend a school other than their neighborhood school, the one assigned to them by geographic boundary, may apply to another school by submitting an open enrollment request online.  The enrollment window opens November 15th and requests are approved on a first come, first served basis provided space is available.

Schedule Changes

We work hard to make sure students get the classes they choose during the course selection process and the best schedule possible.  Sometimes, despite our best efforts, it is not physically possible to place a student in the classes they select based on when classes are offered throughout the day and individual class sizes.

We encourage students, along with the guidance of their parent/guardian, to choose their courses wisely as a schedule change is not an option.

Due to the teaming structure in place in all Canyons School District middle schools, it is often impossible to make a class change that does not affect at least two or more classes in a student's schedule. For this reason, Albion Middle School will be making schedule changes for extenuating circumstances only.

Level changes (requests to move into or out of accelerated classes) will be accommodated provided there is space available and only at the beginning of each quarter.

If you are inquiring about a teacher change request, please note there are 3 steps in this process:
1. Student meets with the teacher during non-instructional time to discuss their concern.
2. Parent/guardian and student meet with the teacher to discuss their concern.

3. If the concern persists, a final meeting with an administrator will be scheduled to discuss the concern and determine next steps/whether a teacher change will be approved.
